The WASZP Games in our fjord will be a spectacular sight! With 180 participants, we will experience something unprecedented. Could it be a world record we are about to witness? 180 foiling dinghies, at the same time, on the start line. This has never happened before.
We recommend that those who want to watch the regattas do so either from their own boat or from one of the islands near the courses. When racing on the inner course, both Buerøya and Hellesøya are good options. Additionally, you are warmly welcome to come to Seilerholmen and feel the excitement, atmosphere, and environment. There will be shuttle boats from our facility at Granholmen to Seilerholmen.
For the outer courses, the distance from the shore to the courses might be a bit greater, but both the east and west sides of the fjord offer good alternatives for watching the events.
On Thursday, August 8th, there will be sprint races (slalom sailing) and distance sailing. The best place to watch will be Seilerholmen!
11:45 - Skippers briefing
13:00 - Sprint and Distance racing - first warning signal.
Safety for the sailors and the audience is our top priority to ensure a positive experience for everyone. This includes those watching from boats, passing through the fjord during the competition, or visiting one of the islands for a closer view of the event.
For the inexperienced, encountering a large fleet of WASZP dinghies in the fjord can seem chaotic. In good conditions, these dinghies can sail at over 20 knots! Remember, the sailors are in control of their boats! Regardless, it is very important that you follow our instructions as best as possible. This ensures both your safety and the sailors' enjoyment.
If you find yourself inadvertently in the way, stop your boat, remain still, and wait for assistance from one of our safety boats.
Sandefjord Seilforening monitors VHF Channel 16 and will respond to calls. If you're unsure about when to pass the courses, don't hesitate to contact us.
We have established recommended primary and secondary navigation routes in and out of the fjord, which we hope all who pass through the competition areas will respect. By secondary navigation routes, we mean those for boats that require more space for safe passage.
If you are unsure, please contact us!
